Dressage World has been created to shine a light on the Classical Principles of Dressage and follows the incredibly brilliant training system of one of the most sought after Masters in the world today, Monsieur Philippe Karl from France.

Learning from such a Master is a rare privilege as he's done all the hard work for us, in that he's studied all the Masters of previous centuries, (Baucher, Raabe, L’Hotte, Faverot de Kerbrech, Beudant, Oliveira, Xenophon, Pluvinel, La Guérinière) and written the results in a book, "Twisted Truths of Modern Dressage".  He has worked with many horses in his 13 years at the Cadre Noir in Saumur, going on to try his methods with thousands of horses and students of his own, with excellent results. 

Philippe Karl has compared the actual principles of correct dressage to the modern systems and quick fixes out there today and provided for us a logical system full of common sense and calm training techniques required to produce our own Grand Prix horses, without MORE leg or tightly cranked nosebands! 

You will not find a set of draw reins or constant repetition of an exercise which isn't working in sight as the main aim in Philippe Karl's training is LIGHTNESS and SOFTNESS to the aids, no force.  And a thinking rider who analyses the requirements of the horse.

He demystifies the elite-ism of high level dressage movements and his training is proof that everyday riders on ordinary horses can train correct flying changes, piaffe and passage.  "You don't need a Warmblood to do Dressage, it just isn't true!" he says.  By learning the individual needs of any horse regardless of breed, the training of the Classical Principles creates lightness to the leg, lightness and understanding of the hand, correct placement of the horse and rider in lateral movements, (balance and weight aids), which HELP the horse become gymnastic and strong to engage in self carriage.

There is no need for stronger arms and bigger bits ~ Philippe Karl says, "What you need is a brain and a good hand..."  The founding principle of The School of Légèreté (Lightness) is Respect to the Horse and to be in accordance with his nature.  "To go with your horse, not against."

The Australian three year Teachers Course is currently being held in Perth and Melbourne with sixteen dedicated riders.  This intensive study is likened to a University Course and spectators are welcomed in to learn the fundamental basics which underlay every discipline in riding.  Three clinics are held per year, April, August and December with an examination process in clinic ten, December 2013.  Advanced Courses continue from 2014.
